A murder suspect, identified as 51-year-old Douglas Cobb of Toms River, is currently at large following a fatal shooting at a Wawa convenience store. The incident took place on Friday morning in the parking lot of the Wawa located at the corner of Route 37 and Garfield Avenue. Authorities responded to the scene around 7:20 a.m. and discovered the victim, 42-year-old Bruce Gress, with a gunshot wound to the head. Gress was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation conducted by Toms River Township police and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office revealed that Cobb, who also goes by the names Douglas Green and the nickname 'Bootknock,' is allegedly responsible for Gress's death. Cobb faces charges including murder and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was last seen operating a black 2016 Acura MDX, bearing New Jersey license plate T93YJL. Law enforcement has issued an arrest warrant for Cobb and entered him into the National Crime Information Center database, classifying him as a fugitive.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer has urged anyone aware of Cobb's whereabouts to advise him to surrender peacefully. The public is requested to contact the prosecutor's Major Crimes Unit or the Toms River Township Police Department with any information regarding the case.
