A father in Pennsylvania has received a two-year probation sentence for endangering his child. Joshua Kitner, 29, pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child, with prosecutors dropping more serious charges. This plea resolved a case stemming from an incident on January 25th.
Authorities were called to a home where Kitner's 2-year-old daughter was found outside in severe winter conditions. The child suffered hypothermia and extensive frostbite, including fourth-degree frostbite on both feet and third-degree frostbite on her right hand. She was wearing only a shirt and diaper.
Kitner told police he had consumed eight or nine beers the night before and fell asleep. He woke to find his daughter outside, cold and with severely frostbitten extremities. She required hospitalization and extensive follow-up care at a burn center.
