A babysitter, Aimee Cotton, 40, is awaiting trial on a manslaughter charge following the death of two-year-old Frankie Rodenbaugh in March 2025. Frankie allegedly died after being left unattended in a car seat for approximately three hours without food or water. His father, Matt Rodenbaugh, described the devastating loss of his "mini-me" son, who was known for his energetic and affectionate nature.
Cotton, a babysitter known to the Rodenbaugh family for over a decade, was entrusted with Frankie's care. However, video evidence from Cotton's home reportedly shows her inside cooking and preparing for her son's hockey practice while Frankie and another child remained in the SUV. Tragically, Frankie's condition worsened, and he was taken off life support. His father noted that Frankie's grandfather, also named Frank, had passed away on the same day Frankie was hospitalized.
In the wake of their son's death, the Rodenbaughs have filed a civil suit against Cotton and established a foundation in Frankie's name, including a playground. Matt Rodenbaugh now advises parents to "trust but verify" caregivers and to listen to their children. The couple recently welcomed their third child, a boy.
Aimee Cotton has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is free on bail. The case highlights the critical importance of constant supervision and verification when entrusting children to caregivers.
