Two individuals were arrested on Saturday for providing medical treatment and prescriptions without proper qualifications near Tirupattur town. K. Elango, 68, and S. Santhosh, 36, both with nursing backgrounds but lacking advanced degrees, operated an illegal clinic and pharmacy from a rented house.
This unauthorized medical practice served an average of 35 to 50 patients daily from neighboring villages over several years. Residents' complaints prompted an inspection by a special medical team, including the Joint Director of Health Services.
During the inspection, health officials discovered used medical equipment, prescriptions, and letterheads. Consequently, the clinic was sealed, and the equipment was confiscated. Tirupattur Taluk police registered a case against the arrested individuals, who are now held in the sub-jail.
