A violent incident occurred in Perumpathu village, near Nanguneri in the Tirunelveli district, late Monday evening. A gang attacked seven people outside a tea shop, resulting in the deaths of Trinath Kata, a guest worker from Odisha, and John Mark from the village. Five others sustained severe injuries.
Victims Ganesan, Saskiumar, Nelson, Prabhakaran, and Ramasamy were hospitalized. In response to the attack, villagers staged a road protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the assailants. Nanguneri police have since taken six individuals into custody as investigations continue. The situation in the village remains tense, with significant police presence to prevent further escalation.
