Cyber Fraud Panic: Woman Ends Life in Thane

A 38-year-old woman in Thane district died by suicide due to overwhelming anxiety after her bank account was reportedly involved in numerous cyber fraud cases nationwide. The deceased, identified as Devika Armugam Pandaram, was visited by officials from the Churu Cyber Cell in Rajasthan on August 8.
They presented her with a notice to appear for questioning concerning a case registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Information Technology Act. Her Bank of Maharashtra account was allegedly used in online fraud.
Seeking clarification, she approached the Thane Police Commissionerate's Cyber Crime Department. Officials there informed her that multiple cyber fraud cases were registered against her in several states, including Haryana, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu.
Fearing the ordeal of traveling across different states for police interrogations, Pandaram tragically ended her life at her Dombivli residence on Tuesday afternoon. Relatives rushed her to a hospital, but she was declared dead upon arrival. Police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the incident.
