In a significant bust, the Wagle Unit 5 of the Thane Crime Branch has successfully cracked a major mobile phone theft case. A 28-year-old man, identified as Akbar alias Papa, a native of Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended. He was reportedly hiding in a chawl near Chinchoti Lake in Naigaon East, Palghar district. The arrest was made on February 19, following a tip-off and a coordinated raid. Investigators noted that Shah had evaded capture by frequently changing locations and allegedly operated under a false identity. A search of his rented accommodation led to the recovery of 30 smartphones from various popular brands. The preliminary investigation has linked these recovered devices to a theft case previously registered at the Kasarvadavali police station. The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior police officials, with a dedicated team leading the investigation.
