Anthony Cerda, 34, faces a murder charge in the death of 90-year-old Francisco Chura in Texas. Chura sustained multiple blunt force trauma wounds during a home invasion on August 20, 2025, and succumbed to his injuries on September 7, 2025. Authorities allege Cerda attacked Chura with a screwdriver while he slept, also stealing about $3,000 from an open safe.
Investigators found a bloodied screwdriver and damp bed sheets at the scene. Recent lab results reportedly indicate DNA from both Cerda and Chura was present on the screwdriver. A neighbor of Chura's identified Cerda, her nephew, as a man fitting the suspect's description, noting Chura occasionally loaned him money.
Further investigation revealed a man's account of Cerda allegedly confessing to the killing while they were together after the attack. Cerda is currently held in the Harris County jail. Chura, who owned a local convenience store for decades, was described by neighbors as a well-known and liked member of the community.
