Federal authorities apprehended an elderly couple, Luke David Brader, 80, and Susan Brader, 74, in southern Texas on drug trafficking charges. The arrest occurred on July 1, when U.S. Border Patrol agents stopped their vehicle and trailer near Falfurrias.
A K-9 unit alerted agents to the trailer, leading to the discovery of a hidden compartment. Inside, agents found 134 packages of cocaine, weighing over 345 pounds.
The couple appeared in federal court on July 6, facing charges of possession with intent to distribute. They have waived their right to a preliminary hearing and remain in custody.
Investigators reported that the Braders admitted knowledge of the illegal narcotics. They stated they anticipated receiving between $5,000 and $10,000 for transporting the trailer to Houston.
