Synagogue Attacker's Ally Faces Trial for Reconnaissance

Mohammad Bashir, 31, an alleged associate of Manchester synagogue attacker Jihad Al-Shamie, will face trial on four terrorism charges. He is accused of driving Al-Shamie to survey the UK's Defence Academy in Shrivenham, Oxfordshire, on August 14, 2024, with the intention of assisting in terrorist acts.

The charges include preparation of terrorist acts and three counts of disseminating terrorist publications via WhatsApp in November and December 2024. Prosecutors stated Bashir's alleged assistance was not related to the synagogue attack itself, which occurred on October 2.

Bashir's trial is provisionally set for July 6, 2025, at Manchester Crown Court. He remains in custody and is scheduled for a plea hearing on April 17, 2025.
