Prosecutors allege Chagniot ambushed and fatally shot his tenant, Eric Bigone, in May 2026. Chagniot reportedly disguised himself and set a fire before shooting Bigone. Bigone's son has filed a wrongful death lawsuit, claiming Chagniot killed his father to facilitate the sale of the property.
While a judge has temporarily blocked the property's sale amid the ongoing legal proceedings, the rental listing remains active. California law mandates disclosure of deaths on a property if they occurred within the last three years before a sale or rental offer.
