Two teenagers have been sentenced to state rehabilitation programs following a violent altercation that began over a vape pen. The incident occurred on September 21st outside a North Washington Street apartment, where the victim had asked the teens to leave after an argument.
The confrontation turned physical when the 13-year-old punched the resident. Subsequently, the 14-year-old fired a gun at the victim from close range. The victim was hospitalized and underwent surgery for the gunshot wound. Neither of the minors involved have been identified due to their age.
The 14-year-old pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and received a sentence of 2 1/2 to three years in a rehabilitation center. The 13-year-old pleaded guilty to criminal mischief with a weapon and received 11 months in a rehabilitation center, plus additional time for assaulting a detention center guard.
