Teens Filming Violent Crimes for Cash: Sydney's Dark Underworld
3 Dec
Summary
- Teens as young as 16 are filming violent crimes for thousands of dollars.
- Police investigate 'post and boast' shootings filmed as 'proof'.
- Gangs pay thousands to instill fear by documenting violent attacks.

A disturbing new criminal enterprise is emerging where teenagers, some as young as 16, are being hired to film violent crimes. These youths allegedly pocket thousands of dollars to capture 'proof' of assaults and shootings for criminal employers. Police in Sydney are currently investigating a series of 'post and boast' incidents that occurred last month, where footage of these crimes was distributed among underworld figures.
The reported payments range from approximately $10,000 for the cameramen to as little as $20,000 for the shooters. This trend is particularly concerning as it involves juveniles directly participating in or documenting serious offenses. The primary motivation appears to be the instillation of fear, with gangs willing to pay significant amounts to have these violent acts recorded and disseminated.
Incidents under investigation include an assault and multiple shootings, with one drive-by shooting in Bossley Park on November 21 involving a 16-year-old allegedly filming a 22-year-old firing over 20 shots. Detectives have also intercepted alleged teenage squads on their way to commit offenses, with evidence suggesting the intent to livestream or record attacks, highlighting a disturbing escalation in criminal methodology.
