The incident occurred on 18 February when the teenagers left the bag unattended while their vehicle was being serviced.
A volunteer at the charity shop alerted authorities after noticing a strong odor from the backpack. Upon inspection, several bags of marijuana, totaling 43.2g, and NZ$3,700 in banknotes were found. Police stated that recreational cannabis use and sale remain illegal in the country.
