Three teenagers have received custodial sentences for the manslaughter of Alexander Cashford, aged 49, whom they lured to a beach in Leysdown-on-Sea, Isle of Sheppey. A 16-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy were each sentenced to seven years in custody, while a 15-year-old boy received a five-year sentence.
Mr Cashford was chased and attacked with rocks and a bottle on August 10 of last year. He met the 16-year-old girl around 7 pm, and he was dead just over an hour later. The court heard the incident began as 'mischief' but escalated into dangerous misconduct.
Jurors had acquitted the teenagers of murder but found them guilty of manslaughter. A post-mortem revealed Mr Cashford had numerous injuries, including fractured ribs that punctured his lung.
The teenagers exchanged messages with Mr Cashford, using the alias 'Sienna,' and arranged to meet him. Mobile phone footage showed the attack, with the girl shouting accusations during the assault.
The judge stated that the teenagers had planned to trap and harm the man, calling it an appalling incident and a senseless loss of life. The parents of Mr Cashford described him as kind and compassionate, stating they were emotionally crushed by his death.
