An inquest into the death of 14-year-old Corey Junior Davis, known as CJ, has concluded he was unlawfully killed. The verdict delivered at East London Coroner's Court detailed "collective failings" across multiple public agencies. These systemic lapses occurred within children's social care, youth offending, and housing services. Senior coroner Graeme Irvine stated these failings possibly contributed to his death, though not with certainty.
The vulnerable teenager, diagnosed with ADHD, had been excluded from school and was groomed by a gang to carry drugs. His mother, Keisha McLeod, had repeatedly sought assistance from authorities, including requests for relocation to protect him. However, after CJ was temporarily sent to relatives outside the borough, a social worker deemed him no longer at risk and closed his case. An independent review found no robust safeguarding plan was in place despite escalating risks.
