A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by the driver and conductor of a private sleeper bus on August 4, a 43 km journey from Greater Noida's Pari Chowk to Delhi's Kashmere Gate. The girl had boarded the bus believing she would be dropped at Noida Sector 63. She was later abandoned near Kashmere Gate.
An investigation into the route revealed significant gaps in surveillance and security. While Pari Chowk had visible police infrastructure, including a booth and PCR van, the Delhi-Noida border near Mayur Vihar showed barricading but no police presence during a daytime check, and a lack of CCTV cameras at traffic signals. Kashmere Gate, the bus's destination, had no visible checkpoints or barricading.
Police are actively mapping the bus route to reconstruct its movement and identify any security lapses. The bus, which had developed a technical issue and was en route for painting, was seized. Investigators have found forensic evidence, including strands of the girl's hair inside the vehicle. The driver and conductor were arrested within hours of the FIR being registered.
