A 14-year-old boy, identified as Ibrahima Seck, was tragically killed after being stabbed in the heart in Manchester on June 8. He was on his way to play football with friends when the attack occurred in the New Moston area.
The perpetrator, who was also 14 at the time of the incident, was found guilty of murder. During the trial, the prosecution revealed that the killer had boasted about committing a murder in a rap video, which became crucial evidence.
Manchester Crown Court heard that Ibrahima was chased by a group of teenagers into a pub car park, where he sustained the fatal wound. The judge, Mr Justice Bright, rejected media applications to name the teenagers due to their age.
Two other boys, aged 14 and 16, were convicted of manslaughter and received sentences of two years and 10 months, and two years and four months respectively. Furthermore, two women, Keri Dobson, 37, and Naomi Heavens, 39, were convicted of assisting an offender. They were each handed a 12-month prison term, suspended for a year, for transporting the teenagers away from the scene and providing them with a change of clothes.
Ibrahima's parents had reportedly informed the police about incidents of gang bullying targeting their son. The victim impact statement described Ibrahima as thoughtful, courageous, and aspiring to be an actor, and a loving brother.
