Summary
- Teenager Kian Bateman jailed for 17 years for murder.
- Victim Shelley Davies died from injuries sustained in September last year.
- Bateman deliberately drove into couple after argument involving his brother.

A 19-year-old man, Kian Bateman, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for the murder of Shelley Davies. The incident occurred on September 27 of last year, when Bateman deliberately drove his car into Davies, 38, and her partner David Bratcher, 40, outside the 4th Glamorgan Homeguard Club in Caerau, Cardiff.
Both victims sustained serious injuries. Davies succumbed to her injuries in hospital three weeks later, having suffered multiple fractures and complications from infections. The court heard that the attack followed an altercation involving Bateman's brother. Bateman, who admitted to inhaling nitrous oxide that evening, claimed he drove to escape a perceived threat, but CCTV evidence contradicted his account.
Bateman was convicted of murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent, though he was acquitted of attempted murder of Bratcher. He did not stop at the scene and abandoned the vehicle.
