A 19-year-old Norwegian footballer, Johannes Kongsnes Natland, has been convicted of conspiracy to murder after arriving in the UK for a planned assassination. He was arrested in a Huddersfield hotel, found with two firearms and 12 live bullets. Natland claimed he would have shot himself to avoid the dangerous predicament he was in.
Jurors heard he repeatedly lied after his arrest and attempted to prevent his girlfriend from testifying. His recruiter, a 17-year-old known as 'Generalen', was convicted in Norway for his role in the plot. This operation was reportedly orchestrated by the proscribed Swedish Foxtrot gang, allegedly backed by the Iranian regime.
Natland arrived in Manchester on March 17 last year on a temporary passport. He was directed by an English-speaking controller, 'Agent 47', to collect weapons and a vehicle for the intended killing. Police apprehended him at his hotel on the eve of the planned assassination. His defense suggested his actions were bravado and he was terrified.
