A 17-year-old suspect, Eugene Dale Thompson, will face trial as an adult for charges including first-degree homicide, stemming from an incident on November 16, 2025. Thompson was bound over to 13th Circuit Court after a preliminary examination where evidence met the probable cause threshold.
Thompson is accused of killing his co-worker, Lawrence Boyd IV, who was found lifeless in the Larry C. Hardy Parking Deck. Dan Yoo, a supervisor, discovered Boyd's body on a Sunday morning. The autopsy revealed Boyd sustained three gunshot wounds, with the manner of death classified as homicide.
The incident on November 15, 2025, also involved police responding to a call about car break-ins. Thompson was arrested after a pursuit during which he allegedly fired shots at an officer. He faces additional charges for possession of a stolen gun, carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting police.
During police questioning, Thompson reportedly claimed to be schizophrenic and to have an alter ego named EK, stating EK controlled the hand with which he fired the weapon. The judge noted there was no evidence to support an insanity defense at this point and that Thompson was found competent to stand trial.
Two other individuals, Hunter Vanderwall and Austin Bucco, have also been arrested in connection with the events of November 15-16, 2025, facing various felony charges. Thompson's next court date is a pretrial hearing on April 17, 2026.
