Teen Charged with Homicide After Shooting Victim Dies

A homicide investigation has been launched after a man, who was shot in late June, died from his injuries. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Mayker Jesus Torres Herrera, passed away on August 7, leading to the reclassification of the case as a homicide. The incident occurred on June 28 at an apartment complex near Interstate 17 and Maryland Avenue in Phoenix.

Officers responded to the scene and found Torres Herrera with a gunshot wound. Authorities swiftly apprehended a 16-year-old suspect who attempted to flee the area. With the aid of the Real-Time Operations Center, law enforcement officers were alerted to the suspect's movements and took him into custody. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
