A 16-year-old North Carolina student, Ashton Rahlfs, faces serious charges including second-degree murder following a fatal incident in October. Authorities allege Rahlfs consumed Twisted Teas before driving more than twice the speed limit, resulting in the death of 14-year-old bicyclist Max Dunham.
Following the collision with Dunham, Rahlfs allegedly crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Brandon Russell. Russell sustained critical injuries, requiring extensive hospitalization and multiple surgeries.
Search warrants uncovered videos and evidence indicating Rahlfs had consumed alcohol, with a Twisted Tea can visible in his vehicle shortly before the crash. Additional cans and other alcoholic beverages were discovered at the scene and near his home.
Rahlfs’ blood alcohol content was found to be 0.11, significantly over the legal limit. He was charged with multiple felonies, including death by motor vehicle and serious injury by vehicle, underscoring the tragic consequences of underage drinking and driving.
