Tragedy struck in Kharagpur's Golbazar area on Thursday night when the body of a 31-year-old Kendriya Vidyalaya teacher, Shubhangi Maheshwari, was recovered from a lodge. Her male companion, Amir Ali, was found unconscious in the same room and remains in critical condition at Kharagpur Sub-Divisional Hospital.
The discovery followed a missing person report filed by Maheshwari's husband. A police team, tracking her mobile phone's tower location, located her at the lodge. Officers forced entry and found both individuals unresponsive.
Investigators suspect that both Maheshwari and Ali may have ingested a poisonous substance. The lodge owner confirmed the man rented the room in the morning and submitted the woman's documents later. The police have initiated a comprehensive investigation to uncover the sequence of events leading to this unfortunate incident.
