Teacher Banned for Hiding Sex Offender Relationship
23 Jul
Summary
- Teacher failed to disclose relationship with registered sex offender.
- Vulnerable pupil inappropriately asked to do gardening at teacher's home.
- Teacher banned indefinitely from the profession.

Natalie Surr, a former teacher at Shirebrook Academy in Nottinghamshire, has been permanently banned from the teaching profession. The ban follows revelations that she was in a relationship with a registered sex offender, a fact she failed to disclose to her employer since July 2023. This failure to inform, despite knowing since July 2023, was considered unacceptable professional conduct.
Furthermore, in September 2023, Surr arranged for a vulnerable pupil to perform gardening tasks at her home for £10. The panel noted risks associated with this task and the lack of adult supervision. Surr admitted her conduct could bring the profession into disrepute.
The Teacher Regulation Agency report confirmed Surr's employment ended in July 2024 after a disciplinary process. She may apply to have the prohibition order set aside no earlier than July 10, 2029.
