22 Mar
Summary
- Teacher assaulted two officers after drinking 10 pints.
- He bit a bouncer and later assaulted officers.
- Banned for two years for professional misconduct.

A former maths teacher, Declan Sealy, has received a two-year ban from the classroom following a drunken incident at Chester Races. Sealy, aged 45, consumed 10 pints of alcohol before assaulting a bouncer by biting his thumb and subsequently attacking two police officers.
His actions led to a conviction for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating of an emergency worker, and being drunk and disorderly. As a result, he was sentenced to a suspended prison term and ordered to complete rehabilitation and unpaid work.
The Teaching Regulation Authority found Sealy guilty of professional misconduct, deeming his decision to consume alcohol to that extent as reckless. Despite character references highlighting his community involvement and church attendance, the panel concluded the two-year ban was a proportionate measure.
Sealy, who previously had an unblemished record and coached rugby, is reportedly ashamed of his behaviour and has chosen to abstain from alcohol. The ban prohibits him from teaching in any school or children's home in England.
