A teacher's aide was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly abusing a nonverbal special needs student in Seaside. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Emmanuel Rivera, was taken into custody after an investigation by the Seaside Police Department.
Authorities were alerted to the situation by Child Protective Services on Tuesday. An investigation revealed video evidence showing Rivera using a wooden stick to strike a 14-year-old student with autism. Rivera has been booked into Monterey County Jail.
Investigators revealed that Rivera is also accused of other incidents of abuse dating back to last year. These alleged abuses include sprinkling chili powder on students' food and using a spray bottle as disciplinary actions. Police suspect there may be additional victims and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
