A former teacher in Meriden, Connecticut, is facing multiple charges related to an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student. Ciara Picard, 39, has been charged with five counts of second-degree sexual assault. The accusations suggest that the relationship began when the student was a freshman at Maloney High School, at the age of 13, and continued until he was a senior.
According to an arrest warrant, Picard allegedly initiated a physical relationship, recalling a specific instance where she told the student, "I've always wanted to kiss you," before they kissed when he was 16. The relationship reportedly involved extensive text communication that turned sexual, including the exchange of graphic photos.
Picard resigned from her teaching position in August after authorities began their investigation. She has since turned herself in to police and was released on a $25,000 bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for December 16. The school district stated that student safety is their top priority.
