Taxi Drivers Lose Licenses Over Serious Crimes
10 Jun
Summary
- 26 incidents in 2025 led to license revocations for taxi drivers.
- Offenses included arrests for rape, sexual assault, and drug conspiracy.
- Drink driving and positive drug tests also resulted in license loss.

In 2025, Stockton Council revoked taxi licenses for 26 drivers following arrests for serious offenses. These incidents included charges related to sexual assault, firearms, rape, stalking, and drug conspiracies. One driver’s license was revoked after an arrest for indecent exposure, despite being ordered to community service and fined, and failing to disclose the arrest.
Further license revocations stemmed from arrests for drink driving, positive tests for illegal substances, and concerns over excessive alcohol consumption. The council conducted 47 screening tests for six illegal substances, with three returning positive for THC. A new applicant was also refused due to a positive THC test, failure to cooperate with an investigation, or vehicle damage.
