Taxi Driver Guilty of Sex Assault After Detour
9 Mar
Summary
- Taxi driver Abdulhamid Alammar convicted of sexual assault.
- The assault occurred after the driver took a passenger to a secluded spot.
- Evidence from another victim aided in Alammar's arrest and conviction.

Abdulhamid Alammar, a 34-year-old taxi driver from East Sussex, has been convicted of sexual assault and causing a person to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity. The verdict was delivered at Lewes Crown Court on Friday, March 7, 2026.
The offences occurred on November 29, 2024, when a woman in her 30s booked a taxi home. Instead of driving her to her destination, Alammar transported her to a secluded area and assaulted her. He was found not guilty of false imprisonment.
Alammar's arrest and charges for this incident were facilitated by an ongoing investigation into a separate sex assault reported in April 2025 by another woman in Hastings. This second victim's courage in coming forward was crucial.
In October 2025, Alammar had already been on trial for the April allegations and was convicted of sexual assault, though acquitted of rape and sexual assault by penetration. He remained in custody awaiting trial for the November offences. Detective Constable Christina Bales praised the victims' courage and emphasized the predatory nature of these serious crimes.
