Tasmania Search Paused: Missing Tourist's Remains Found?
31 Jan
Summary
- Search for Celine Cremer's belongings paused after two days.
- Human remains and clothing found near Cradle Mountain.
- Forensic tests will take weeks to confirm identity of remains.

The intensive search for any remaining belongings of Celine Cremer, a Belgian tourist missing for two-and-a-half years in Tasmania, has been temporarily halted. The operation, which focused on an area downstream from where significant discoveries were made on Friday, concluded on Saturday without locating further items.
Tasmania Police reported that human remains, a polar fleece jacket believed to be Ms. Cremer's, a bra, a thermal top, and other bones were found on Friday near Philosopher Falls, close to Cradle Mountain. These items were discovered by a bushwalker earlier in the week during a privately led search.
While Commander Nathan Johnston expressed disappointment at not finding more items on Saturday, he emphasized the significance of Friday's discoveries. He stated that forensic examination, including DNA analysis, will be required to confirm the identity of the remains. This process could potentially take longer than the initially estimated three weeks.
