Summary
- Tamil Nadu govt ordered 1.5 lakh compensation for woman alleging illegal detention and torture
- State directed DGP to recover 1 lakh from inspector and 50,000 from sub-inspector
- Disciplinary proceedings initiated against the two CB-CID officers

In a significant move, the Tamil Nadu government has issued an order to disburse a 1.5 lakh compensation to a Guduvanchery-based woman who had approached the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) alleging illegal detention and torture by two CB-CID police officers in 2020.
The government's order also directs the Director General of Police (DGP) to recover 1 lakh from the personal funds of Inspector Dhanalakshmi and 50,000 from Sub-Inspector G Sathyanarayanan, as per the SHRC's directive. Additionally, the DGP has been instructed to initiate disciplinary proceedings and a departmental inquiry against the two officers.
The case pertains to a civil dispute between the complainant, R Radha, and her brother over a property owned by their father. Despite an interim injunction from a Villupuram civil court prohibiting the alienation of the property, Radha's brother had allegedly sold it to a popular jewelry chain. In 2020, based on a complaint by the property's buyer, the CB-CID officials registered a case against Radha and forcibly took her and her husband from Chennai to the CB-CID office in Tiruvannamalai for interrogation. The SHRC found the two officers guilty of the charges leveled by Radha.
