On October 22, 2025, a 31-year-old Taiwanese influencer named Iris Hsieh, who had over 546,000 followers on Instagram, was found dead in a hotel bathtub in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The hotel was located on Jalan Conlay, a street in the city.
Initially, Hsieh's death was classified as a sudden death report, but the investigation is now being treated as a murder case, according to local police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus. Marsus stated that Malaysian rapper Namewee, 42, was the last person seen with Hsieh, and he had been in the same room as the victim at the time of the incident.
Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, was arrested on October 22 for alleged possession and use of drugs, including ecstasy, amphetamines, methamphetamine, ketamine, and THC. He was released after pleading not guilty to the drug-related charges on October 24.
The police are reviewing CCTV footage and have recorded statements from hotel staff and security in an attempt to trace Hsieh's movements before her death. Marsus stated that the investigation is examining every movement of both Hsieh and the person last seen with her, and the truth is expected to be revealed in the coming months.
