Grandfather Hostage Video: Bungled Kidnapping Sparks Fears
23 Feb
Summary
- Elderly grandfather allegedly kidnapped due to mistaken identity.
- Victim forced to film a disturbing hostage video after being beaten.
- Police believe a stolen, torched car is linked to the botched abduction.

An 85-year-old grandfather, Chris Baghsarian, is missing after an alleged kidnapping from his Sydney home on February 13. Police suspect the abduction was a bungled extortion plot due to mistaken identity, as the captors allegedly targeted the wrong individual. Mr. Baghsarian was reportedly taken to a property in Dural, beaten, and forced to record a distressing hostage video.
The disturbing footage, which shows Mr. Baghsarian gagged with his hands tied and blood visible, was allegedly sent to an underworld figure. Investigators are treating the situation with urgency, as hope for his safe return diminishes due to his reliance on daily medication. A specialized police task force, Strike Force Chobat, has been established to locate him.
Authorities have linked a stolen and torched Toyota Corolla, found in Westmead, to the crime scene in Dural. This vehicle, bearing Victorian registration, is believed to have been used in the abduction and subsequent disposal of evidence. Police are appealing to the public for any information regarding the kidnapping or the whereabouts of the kidnappers.
