TikTok Star Swavy's Murder: Gang Rivalry Exposed
22 Jun
Summary
- TikTok influencer Swavy was fatally shot in July 2021.
- His murder was linked to a friend's earlier killing.
- The shooter received two life sentences without parole.
TikTok influencer Matima Miller, widely known as Swavy, was tragically killed on July 5, 2021. At 19 years old, he was gunned down while walking home from McDonald's with his friend Quan. Swavy sustained three gunshot wounds to the chest and later died at a hospital.
Prosecutors suggested Swavy's murder was retaliation for the July 2, 2021, shooting death of his friend Quinton Dorsey. Dorsey, who promoted a clothing brand called Bag Season, was killed in Wilmington's East Side neighborhood.
Community support and evidence, including a stolen Nissan and an Instagram story, helped identify Israel Lecompte as the perpetrator. Lecompte, associated with a gang, was found guilty of first-degree murder for both Swavy and Dorsey's deaths.
On April 4, 2024, Lecompte, then 20, was sentenced to two life sentences without parole. He also received a consecutive 27-year sentence for another fatal shooting in 2021, totaling over 190 years.
