A lawsuit has been filed against surgeon Dr. Steven James Muscoreil, who is accused of verbally and physically assaulting a patient, Natalie Henry, after her gallbladder surgery in January 2026. Henry alleged that Muscoreil shouted at her and charged towards her as she lay in bed when she complained of severe abdominal pain. A nurse reportedly had to step between them.
The complaint further claims the hospital was aware of Muscoreil's volatile behavior and had previously ignored complaints. As a result of the alleged incident, Henry reports suffering emotional distress, anxiety, and nightmares.
St. Mary's Health Care System confirmed that Muscoreil is no longer providing care at the hospital following the accusations. Police arrested Muscoreil, charging him with simple assault after a report indicated he acted aggressively towards Henry. His professional background includes over 35 years of experience and recognition as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
