A significant health hazard was uncovered in Surat, Gujarat, following a raid on an illegal paneer manufacturing unit in the Pandesara area on March 3, 2026. Officials discovered paneer being produced with hazardous industrial acids and Palmolein oil, a stark contrast to typical food-grade ingredients.
During the operation, about 1,401 kilograms of paneer, stored in unsanitary conditions, along with Palmolein oil, chemicals, and machinery, were confiscated. The total value of seized materials amounted to Rs 28,44,170. Laboratory tests confirmed the paneer was sub-standard and a grave risk to public health.
