A 50-year-old head constable, Sheetal Prajapati, from Surat's Kadodara GIDC police station, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday for accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000. Prajapati allegedly pressured a former bootlegger to pay, even after the complainant had ceased illegal liquor activities. The ACB successfully laid a trap in Antroli village to apprehend the officer.
This arrest is not the first for Prajapati; he was previously caught by the ACB for accepting a Rs 3,500 bribe from a tempo driver while serving in Surat city. Following that incident, he was transferred out of the city and district but later secured a posting back in the Surat district.
The complainant, unwilling to pay Prajapati's demands, approached the ACB after repeated pressure. The trap was executed under the supervision of ACB officials, leading to the constable's apprehension while receiving the bribe money.
