Mumbai-based comedian Sunil Pal has formally recorded his statement in a Meerut court regarding his alleged kidnapping in December 2024. Pal asserted that the incident was genuine and not staged, indicating he is still receiving threatening calls demanding he retract his complaint. Police have identified ten accused individuals, with two currently arrested.
Pal reported being lured to Meerut for a performance, only to be abducted, blindfolded, and held for nearly a day. During his captivity, he stated he was threatened with a "poison-filled injection" and coerced into transferring ₹7.5 lakh as ransom. Investigators confirmed that a portion of this money was used to purchase gold from local jewelers.
This incident follows a similar modus operandi used by the same gang, which previously kidnapped actor Mushtaq Khan in November 2024 in Delhi and took him to Bijnor. The group had also reportedly attempted to target Shakti Kapoor.
Pal expressed confidence in the Meerut police to uncover the truth, noting his long association with the city over the past 25 years.
