Suffolk Islamic Event Evacuated Amid Far-Right Threat Fears
18 Jul
Summary
- Police are investigating an alleged far-right threat to a major Islamic event.
- Thousands attended the gathering, but it was closed early on police advice.
- While many were arrested, most have been released with few charges filed.

An investigation is underway into an alleged extreme right-wing threat made against an Islamic event in Suffolk. The UK Ijtima gathering, held at Shrubland Hall near Ipswich, drew thousands of attendees. However, the event was compelled to close early as a precautionary measure on police advice last weekend.
Authorities initially arrested 13 individuals in connection with the probe. As of Saturday, seven men have been released from custody without charge, and four others were granted bail. One man remains on bail with strict conditions pending further inquiries. Searches of homes and vehicles have been conducted, leading to the seizure of over 35 digital devices.
A 42-year-old man has been charged with possessing offensive weapons and a stun gun. These charges are not believed to be connected to the alleged threat against the Islamic event. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
Commander Helen Flanagan stated that while inquiries are ongoing, no evidence has been found to support charges directly linked to the alleged threat. She reassured the public, particularly the Muslim community, that efforts to identify any potential offenses continue. Thanks were extended to event organizers and the local community for their support.
