Student Dies After Alleged School Harassment Over Fees

A tragic incident has unfolded in Amritsar where a 17-year-old Class 12 student, Amjot Kaur, died on Saturday night after consuming a poisonous substance on May 22. She had been staying with her maternal aunt for her studies.
Before succumbing to treatment, the distressed student recorded a video statement from her hospital bed, leveled serious allegations against her school administration, and held them responsible for her ordeal. She recounted being called to school on May 11 and subjected to severe mental torture in a separate room.
According to police sources, the dispute reportedly arose over pending school fees amounting to approximately Rs 20,000. The victim's family alleges that the school staff relentlessly pressured the teenager to clear the dues despite their circumstances.
Following the viral video, Amritsar police registered a case and launched a full-scale investigation. Punjab minister Harjot Singh Bains confirmed that an FIR for abetment to suicide has been registered against the school authorities, vowing strictest action against all involved.
