A Colombian student visa holder in Melbourne, Daniel Alejandro Latriglia Salcedo, 21, has been sentenced for drug trafficking. He operated a sophisticated drug operation, using "Thanos" themed business cards with QR codes that directed customers to order illicit substances like cocaine, cannabis, ketamine, ecstasy, and LSD via Telegram. Police discovered these cards, along with significant amounts of cash and drugs, during traffic stops and a subsequent raid on his residence.
Salcedo was apprehended after a police search of his vehicle uncovered various drugs and "Thanos" business cards. A later search of his home revealed larger quantities of cannabis, suspected cocaine, ketamine, MDMA, LSD, magic mushrooms, counterfeit money, and more business cards. He admitted to using the QR codes for drug sales and price lists.
Despite facing serious trafficking charges, Salcedo was given a 14-month community corrections order and a $500 fine, avoiding jail. Magistrate Leon Fluxman deemed him "very lucky," noting that such offenses typically warrant imprisonment. The court considered his early guilty plea and lack of prior convictions in its decision.
