A swift intervention by a college student prevented potential harm at a California In-N-Out Burger on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Luca Opperman, 20, responded to a disturbance where a woman was allegedly using a large stick to threaten employees.
Hearing a loud banging noise, Opperman observed the woman smashing a stick on a counter. He then performed a remarkable feat, jumping through the drive-through window to confront the woman. He grabbed a spatula and ordered her to leave.
As the woman advanced toward the employees in the back, Opperman disarmed her by taking the stick. The Riverside County Sheriff's Office arrived shortly after and detained the suspect without incident.
The woman, identified as Antonieta Sanchez, 53, was booked on suspicion of felony vandalism and brandishing a weapon. No injuries were reported during the entire ordeal, thanks to the student's bravery.
