A final-year BTech student, Aman Prajapati, aged 21, from Sagar University in Madhya Pradesh, allegedly died by suicide on Saturday. Police reported that his mobile phone contained evidence of persistent calls from Pakistan-based numbers. These communications allegedly included threats to digitally alter and distribute his family's photographs online if he did not comply with extortion demands.
Prajapati was a resident of Auder village and had checked into a lodge in Bina on Friday evening. He had informed the lodge staff of his intention to leave early the next morning for Prayagraj. His family had previously filed a missing person's report at the Gopalganj police station after he left his hostel in Sagar without informing them on July 2.
The family alleges that cyber fraudsters extorted money from him, leading to sustained harassment. The full extent of the alleged blackmail and threats only came to light after his death, revealing the pressures faced by the student from multiple digital loan agents.
