A student police officer, Paulo Abreu, has been commended for his swift and decisive actions in saving an eight-month-old baby. Abreu, who recently joined Dorset Police, was on a break when he witnessed the infant gagging on a plastic wrapper. He identified himself to the baby's mother and performed back slaps, successfully dislodging the obstruction.
The incident occurred on March 12, and the baby was later confirmed to be well after being taken to the hospital. Abreu credited his recent two-day police officer first aid training course, completed just the week prior, for enabling him to act instinctively and effectively during the emergency.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Callaghan expressed immense pride in PC Abreu's life-saving intervention. He emphasized that the officer's actions are a testament to the high standard of first aid training provided by the force, ensuring officers are well-prepared for critical situations.
