A 20-year-old student from San Diego State University successfully evaded a scam by Daejon Love, who allegedly posed as a professional football player.
She first encountered Love in April at a San Diego strip club. He quickly began pursuing her, depicting a high-flying lifestyle with talk of luxury cars and financial security, even asking about her bills.
Love arranged for her to meet him, but insisted they meet at an Airbnb, citing his "high profile" status. There, he pitched an "NFL wife" existence, promising access to free games, expensive jewelry, and financial backing, along with suggesting a romantic relationship.
He also presented what appeared to be substantial financial accounts and an investment opportunity. However, the student grew suspicious and began investigating Love's claims online, finding Reddit threads accusing him of scamming women. She subsequently cut off contact and did not lose any money, unlike 26 other women who allegedly lost $1.3 million to Love and an accomplice.
