Student Arrested for Hurling Antisemitic Slurs at Barstool Founder

In a concerning incident, police are investigating an antisemitic video that went viral from a Barstool Sports event in Starkville, Mississippi. The video, recorded on November 7, 2025, shows a 20-year-old Mississippi State University student yelling antisemitic slurs at Barstool founder Dave Portnoy, who is Jewish.

The student was arrested the following Monday, November 10, 2025, on a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace. He was released on a $2,500 bond and later withdrew from the university that same day.

This incident comes just months after a similar situation at a Barstool bar in Philadelphia, where a Temple University student was suspended for their involvement in an antisemitic sign displayed at the establishment. Portnoy, who has spoken out about the rise in antisemitism, expressed concern over the increasing frequency of such hateful incidents targeting him and the Jewish community.

Starkville police emphasized that while offensive speech is protected, any behavior that disrupts public events or risks violence will be addressed to maintain safety and security in the community.
