A man has been sentenced to 16 months in prison and a 20-month driving ban following a dangerous incident involving a stolen delivery van. Reece Rowe, 29, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, and having no insurance.
During the pursuit, Rowe drove the van at excessive speeds, reaching 61mph in a 30mph zone. He also drove on the wrong side of the road, ran red lights, and mounted pavements before crashing into barriers surrounding the derelict Charles Cross church. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Rowe, who has an extensive criminal record including previous dangerous driving offenses, cited drug and alcohol addiction as contributing factors. He expressed shame for his actions, with the judge noting his attempt to evade police while impaired by alcohol.
