Oregon's Notorious 'Starry Night Killer' Arrested Again

Lawrence Hurwitz, infamously known as the 'Starry Night Killer,' was arrested on January 16 in Sandy, Oregon. This arrest is due to violating his lifetime parole. Hurwitz was convicted for the 1990 murder of Tim Moreau, a 21-year-old college student who worked for him.

Moreau was murdered at a nightclub owned by Hurwitz. The crime remained unsolved for years until 1998 when another employee, George Castagnola, confessed and implicated Hurwitz. They used a garrote to strangle Moreau and then concealed his body. The murder was reportedly to prevent Moreau from exposing an illegal counterfeit ticketing scheme at the venue.

Both Hurwitz and Castagnola received plea deals in 2000. Hurwitz served a 12-year sentence and moved to Wisconsin in 2008. In 2019, he was arrested in California for drug possession and money, pleading guilty in 2021. The current arrest involves harassment charges, and a jury trial is scheduled for March 19. Hurwitz is currently held on $500,000 bond.
