Stardust Victims Honored at 45th Anniversary Vigil
14 Feb
Summary
- 48 people were killed in the 1981 Stardust nightclub fire.
- An inquest in 2024 found the 48 victims were unlawfully killed.
- Survivors will receive 20,000 euro payments under a new scheme.

A vigil took place in Dublin on Saturday, marking 45 years since the devastating Stardust nightclub tragedy. The ceremony was held at the site of the former nightclub in Artane, where 48 people tragically died on Valentine's Day in 1981.
Wreaths were laid by representatives from emergency services and the Irish army veterans. A 48-second and a one-minute silence were observed during the commemoration.
An inquest in 2024 determined that the 48 victims were unlawfully killed, attributing the blaze to an electrical fault. An Garda Siochana's Serious Crime Review Team is actively pursuing a review into the deaths.
In recognition of the long wait for justice, survivors of the fire will now receive 20,000 euro each. This is part of a 16.4 million euro scheme. A 24 million euro redress scheme for the victims' families concluded in August.
